Date set for 2010 Mablethorpe Marathon
THE Mablethorpe Marathon Committee has announced that the 2010 Mablethorpe Marathon will take place on October 3.
In the past few weeks, the Committee, now Chaired by Paddy Prince, has been working with East Lindsey District Council to look at how the Marathon can move forward and attract the volunteers needed to make it a regular event that benefits the town.
The 2010 race will include both the full 26 mile Marathon race and the 13 mile half Marathon.
Paddy Prince, explained: “We are keen to get the Marathon back up and running in 2010 because we know from pervious experience that it brings people to the town outside the main holiday season, which can only be good for the local businesses. Working together with the District Council we hope that next year’s Marathon will be one of the best yet and a celebration the whole town has the opportunity to be involved in.”
The Mablethorpe Marathon was launched back in 2006 and attracted around 2,500 runners in its first year. It took place again in 2007 and 2008 but in 2009 it had to be postponed due to a lack of people volunteering to help.
James Turner, the District Council’s Volunteering Officer hopes he can turn that around: “It was unfortunate last year’s event was cancelled but working with the Committee we’re both determined to attract the number of people required to make the 2010 race happen.”
If you would like to volunteer to help the Marathon Committee, please call 01507 442590.
The Mablethorpe Marathon's next committee meeting is on Tuesday, December 1, 2009 at 6pm at the Athletics Club on Sherwood Fields in Mablethorpe
